We’ve covered some pretty silly markups like a $100,000 extra on top of a new Chevy Corvette, or more than $20,000 over the cost of a new Toyota bZ4X. There also seems to be one Volkswagen dealer in Florida that’s marking up a used Tesla Model 3 by adding on a number of charges.
A document shared on the Tesla Owners Worldwide Facebook group seems to show a Floridian Volkswagen dealer who has marked up a $56,142 Model 3 with 2,084 miles on the clock by about $10,000 to $66,224.86. Here’s a quick breakdown of some of those charges.
$997 goes towards “VW CARE 5/50k” which, as far as we can tell, includes all maintenance services listed under the manufacturer scheduled maintenance up to a 5-year / 50,000-mile interval. In addition, the dealer is charging $830 for a Xzilon paint protection coating, $499 for window tint, $379 for all-weather floor mats, $199 for nitrogen-filled tires, and $199 for wheel locks.

The most expensive additional fee is a $998 charge for LoJack 5 Year Plan. If you’re familiar with Tesla you might know that you can already track a Tesla with your phone. It’s certainly not foolproof but neither is LoJack.
Keep in mind that for this kind of money, anyone can go to Tesla’s own website right now and order up a brand new Model 3 for less cash. The base Model 3 starts at $46,990 which means that you could add Full Self Driving and still be underneath this VW dealer’s marked-up pricing.
If you’re concerned about all the negative press that FSD is getting you could instead splurge for the Model 3 Performance with its dual-motor setup and a 0-60 time of just 3.1 seconds and still pay less than the dealer wants for their used Model 3.
We’ve reached out to the Facebook group with hopes of getting more detailed information and will update this post with it as soon as possible. For now, we’ll continue to monitor and report dealers that are doing everything in their power to take more money out of your pocket.
